Orlando Bloom to star in 'The Hobbit'
Recommend
British hottie Orlando Bloom is returning to a familiar place: The Shire. Bloom will reprise his role as the butt-kicking, platinum-haired elf Legolas in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.
As is Hollywood custom, Jackson is taking liberties with the story, as Legolas does not appear anywhere in author J.R.R. Tolkein's classic 1937 novel. Nevertheless, Jackson sounds more than thrilled to reteam with Bloom, whose last big movie was 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
"Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas," Jackson wrote on Facebook. "I'm excited to announce today that we'll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. I'm thrilled to be working with Orlando again."
Jackson is shooting the two-part prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy in New Zealand and is bringing back even more stars from that franchise, including Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Andy Serkis (Gollum) and Cate Blanchett (Galadriel). Martin Freeman (British version of The Office) will star in the title role as Bilbo Baggins.
