See this movie: 'How to Live Forever'
Recommend
I can't resist a film about the elderly.
Young@Heart? Made me cry. Bill Cunningham New York? That's the best film in theaters right now, if you ask me.
So when I heard about How to Live Forever, a new documentary directed by Mark Wexler, I jumped at the chance to see it. The premise: Wexler travels the world, trying to find out what it means to grow old.
The movie is funny, rewarding and moving: Along the way, Wexler talks to people like 103-year-old Buster Martin, a cheeky Brit who believes the secret to life includes chain-smoking, pints of beer and (astoundingly) running marathons. He encounters celebrities like Phyllis Diller (93), Ray Bradbury (90), Suzanne Somers (64) and fitness guru Jack LaLanne, who died this year at 96.
Beyond just chattin' with old folks, Wexler delves into the science of life extension and probes whether one day we really might be able to live forever ... or at least a lot longer than we think.
Here's the charming trailer:
How to Live Forever opens in New York May 13, but then it expands to many other cities throughout the summer. Look for it in your town! I thought the film was a rather meaningful way to spend 94 minutes of my life.
